Proposal for a play area in Cawthorne

The Parish Council, in partnership with Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, is examining the feasibility of providing a small play area for young children somewhere in the village. Contrary to rumours circulating in the community, no decision has yet been made on whether or not to proceed with this proposal. Consultation is taking place this month, after which the Parish Council will consider the financial and other implications of the proposal, and will of course take note of the outcome of the consultation process.

Parish Council Meeting

The only Council Meeting in September was a Planning Committee Meeting, at which Councillor Asquith was elected Chairman of the Committee. The Committee had neither objections nor observations on proposed tree works at the Rowlands Plantation behind Alexander Gardens. The Committee had no objections to the retrospective application for the equine business at Elmhirst Farm, South Lane, but did make observations regarding the highway safety problems on South Lane, which is narrow and winding. An application for an extension at a property in The Park was not discussed as the proposal was actually permitted development therefore did not require planning permission.

Annual Audit year ending 31st March 2009

The End of Audit Notice for the year ending 31st March 2009 has been removed from the notice board after being displayed for the requisite two week period. The Council wishes to thank Mr. Frank Matthewman for continuing to act as Internal Auditor for the Council.

Parish Council Grants

Some funds are still available for small grants to bona fide organisations. Please apply in writing to the Parish Clerk.

Parish Council Meetings and Public Question Session

The following procedure to enable parishioners to address the Council is still in force.

Councillors and the Clerk attend at 7.30 pm; members of the public who are in attendance are allowed to ask questions of the Council, on any matter, from 7.30 pm to 7.40 pm; at 7.40 pm the formal meeting of the Council commences. This procedure also applies to Council Committee Meetings, although timings will normally be half an hour earlier.
