Cawthorne Parish Council

Parish Notes September 2008

Cawthorne Footpaths Guide

The footpaths guide has been reprinted and is now available from the village post office and the village shop. Thanks are given to Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council for its grant towards the reprint.

The Walker Family star on University Challenge

Many residents will remember Jack and Freda Walker who lived in Church Street, near the post office, and their daughter Vivien. Vivien’s son Joel Weller, who has a B. Sc. in Theoretical Physics, and is reading for a Ph. D. in Cosmology at the University of Sheffield, was the star of the Sheffield team on this week’s University Challenge TV programme. Cawthorners may wish to watch Sheffield in the next round to see how one of their own performs in such a high pressure environment!

BMBC Ward Councillor’s Surgery

Councillor John Wilson, Penistone East Ward, BMBC, will be holding a surgery in the Village Hall on Saturday 18th October 2008, from 1030 a.m. until noon. Members of the public are invited to attend, on a drop-in basis, to discuss any relevant matters with Councillor Wilson.

 Annual Audit

The Council has received the external auditor’s return for the year ending 31st March 2008. The Council has received a clear return, with no comments or non-compliances. The notice of completion of the audit process, and associated paperwork has been on display on the Council notice board for the requisite period of time.

Parish Council Grants

There are still funds available for small grants to bona fide organisations. Please note that organisations which have already received a grant during this financial year are unlikely to be successful with a second application. Please apply in writing to the Parish Clerk.

Next Meeting of the Parish Council

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held on Thursday 2nd October 2008, at 7.40 pm, in the Moxon Room, Village Hall. All parishioners are welcome, and are encouraged to attend at 7.30 pm.
