Cawthorne has been awarded the Runner Up prize for the Yorkshire area Calor Village of the Year Competition 2007. Many thanks and congratulations to all the individuals and organisations that were instrumental in the Village achieving this award.

Yorkshire in Bloom 2007

Cawthorne has been awarded a Silver prize in this year’s competition. The Council wishes to thank all those villagers who helped win this award.

Traffic congestion and parking problems within the village

Further to my article on traffic problems last month, I can now confirm that South Yorkshire Police will be taking appropriate enforcement action against unlawfully parked vehicles causing congestion etc.

Fly tipping

As reported last month, fly tipping is becoming an increasing problem within the parish. At least one property was severely flooded in the recent storms because of fly tipping in Tanyard Beck, which had effectively formed a dam, causing the Beck to overflow and flood the surrounding areas. BMBC will be taking enforcement action against offenders.

Garden Bonfires

Following a spate of recent enquiries, BMBC Environment Officers have confirmed that land owners may lawfully burn natural, organic matter on their property, including gardens, on every day of the year, except Christmas Day. This means that bonfires of grass, twigs, gorse etc are lawful.

Overhanging trees and bushes

As regularly mentioned in these notes, overhanging trees and bushes are still causing pedestrians difficulties when walking along pavements throughout the parish. Residents are once again requested to cut back any overhanging foliage from trees and bushes.

Parish Council Meetings and Public Question Session

The following procedure to enable parishioners to address the Council came into effect from the July 2007 meeting of the Council. Councillors and the Clerk attend at 7.30 pm as per usual practice; members of the public who are in attendance are allowed to ask questions of the Council, on any matter, from 7.30 pm to 7.40 pm; at 7.40 pm the formal meeting of the Council commences. Members of the public are not permitted to participate in the formal meeting unless they have complied with the requirements previously advertised.

Next Meeting of the Parish Council

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held on Thursday 1st November 2007, at 7.40 pm, in the Moxon Room, Village Hall. All parishioners are welcome, and are encouraged to attend at 7.30 pm.
