Correspondence with the Clerk to the Council
If you are writing to the Clerk to the Council, would you please actually put Cawthorne Parish Council on the envelope, so that the recipient is aware that it is not personal or other business mail.
Garden Bonfires
Further to my article on garden bonfires in the September issue of Parish Notes, parishioners are respectfully reminded that if they are having garden bonfires to be mindful of, and considerate to, their neighbours. Smoke pollution from bonfires can be very unpleasant and can interfere with the well being, comfort or enjoyment of others and their property. Bonfire Guidelines are detailed in the NSCA Information Leaflet: Local Environment – Garden Bonfires, which is available from BMBC. Whilst there are no specific byelaws prohibiting garden bonfires, if once a bonfire has been lit it becomes a nuisance to others, through smoke etc, then those affected may have cause to take legal action under the provisions of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, or the Clean Air Act 1993. If a bonfire is causing such a nuisance, and an approach to the person who has lit it is unsuccessful, then the next step is to notify the environmental health department of Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, which will investigate the complaint. Further information on the law and bonfires is also contained in the quoted leaflet.
