'Bottom Club'
Councillor John Wilson, Penistone East Ward, BMBC
Councillor Wilson will be holding a surgery on Saturday 16th February 2008, from 10 am until 12 noon, in the Moxon Room, Village Hall. The surgery is open to all who wish to raise issues with Councillor Wilson.
Parish Precept
At the January meeting of the Parish Council the Council resolved to set a precept of £21,000 for the financial year 2008 – 2009, which is some £5000 less than anticipated expenditure, once grant allocations are taken into account. Shortfall will be taken from reserves.
Cemetery and Orchard Grass Cutting
The Council has again resolved to extend its grass cutting contract with T & D Contractors, Crigglestone.
Parish Council Grants
The Council has approved the following grants for the financial year 2008-2009:
Cawthorne Brass Band - £1000 funding towards building costs for the new secure store room.
Cawthorne Churches- upto £250 towards the annual calendar of Christmas Events.
Cawthorne Summer Fete Group- £50 towards costs of the event.
Cawthorne Village Christmas tree, lights, electricity etc – upto £150.
Cawthorne Village Hall - £1000 towards refurbishment costs.
Royal British Legion - £30 donation for annual Poppy Wreath.
Parish Room Appeal - £3000, one off, non recurrent grant, towards costs of providing disabled access as part of the current refurbishment.
Penistone Paramount Cinema - £100 towards maintenance costs.
The Council has further funds available for grants to bona fide village organisations during the financial year 2008 – 2009. For further information please contact the Parish Clerk on the number below.
Dog Fouling
There has been an increasing amount of dog fouling in the centre of the village, particularly along Darton Road, in recent weeks. Dog owners/walkers are reminded that apart from being socially unacceptable, it is an offence to permit dogs to foul in public places.
Theft of Children’s bicycles
A number of children’s bicycles have been recently stolen from Spencer Croft. Parishioners are advised to be alert for sneak thieves.
Parish Council Meetings and Public Question Session
The following procedure to enable parishioners to address the Council came into effect from the July 2007 meeting of the Council. Councillors and the Clerk attend at 7.30 pm as per usual practice; members of the public who are in attendance are allowed to ask questions of the Council, on any matter, from 7.30 pm to 7.40 pm; at 7.40 pm the formal meeting of the Council commences. Members of the public are not permitted to participate in the formal meeting unless they have complied with the requirements previously advertised.
Next Meeting of the Parish Council
The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held on Thursday 7th FEBRUARY 2007, at 7.40 pm, in the Moxon Room, Village Hall. All parishioners are welcome, and are encouraged to attend at 7.30 pm.
