Cawthorne Parish Council

Parish Notes - August 2007

New Council Members

The Parish Council is delighted to announce that after application and interview, Messrs. Gary Eley and Alan Pogorzelec have been co-opted onto the Council with effect from the 3rd August 2007. The Council wishes to thank the other electors who expressed an interest in being co-opted. All places on the Council are now filled.

Traffic congestion and parking problems within the village

Traffic problems are now so bad that emergency vehicles and buses are at times not able to pass along the highway and pedestrians have to walk on the highway because vehicles illegally parked on the pavements are making them impassable. The Parish Council is liaising with the South Yorkshire Police with a view to them taking appropriate enforcement action against these selfish and unthinking motorists.

Fly tipping

Fly tipping is becoming an increasing problem within the parish. Enforcement action by BMBC will be taken against anyone caught fly tipping.

Overhanging trees and bushes

As regularly mentioned in these notes, overhanging trees and bushes are causing pedestrians difficulties when walking along pavements throughout the parish. Residents are requested to cut back any overhanging foliage from trees and bushes. If the problems continue BMBC will be requested to trim back such foliage, the bill thereafter being sent to the appropriate landowner.

Parish Council Meetings and Public Question Session

The following procedure to enable parishioners to address the Council came into effect from the July 2007 meeting of the Council. Councillors and the Clerk attend at 7.30 pm as per usual practice; members of the public who are in attendance are allowed to ask questions of the Council, on any matter, from 7.30 pm to 7.40 pm; at 7.40 pm the formal meeting of the Council commences. Members of the public are not permitted to participate in the formal meeting unless they have complied with the requirements previously advertised.

Parish Council Grants

There are still some funds available for small grants to bona fide organisations. Please apply in writing to the Parish Clerk.

Next Meeting of the Parish Council

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held on Thursday 6th September 2007, at 7.40 pm, in the Moxon Room, Village Hall. All parishioners are welcome, and are encouraged to attend at 7.30 pm.
