Civic Badge

The Parish Council has resolved to purchase a Civic Badge of Office for the Council Chairman to wear when representing Cawthorne at civic functions in the local area and elsewhere.

Proposal for a play area in Cawthorne

The Parish Council has resolved to proceed with the proposal to provide a modern play area with modern equipment and facilities for children on the Orchard. The Orchard was originally purchased by the Parish Council for the purpose of providing a children’s play area. The one proposed will be a modern style one, not a traditional swing park. It will not be over large and will leave ample open space in the Orchard. The Council debated the issue at length and took into account letters of support (23) and letters of objection (4), and also listened to a speech in favour, and a speech against, made by parishioners. A grant in the region of £40,000 has been offered by Play England through BMBC. Cllr John Wilson of BMBC is to be thanked for obtaining this grant for the community of Cawthorne.

Avenue of Trees at Church Walk

The Parish Council will be applying for tree works at the said avenue. At least two trees have a fungal infection which may necessitate taking them down to ground level.

Red Telephone Kiosk outside the Post Office

The Parish Council has accepted an offer from BT to ‘adopt’ the telephone kiosk, which is a listed building. The telephony equipment will be removed by BT. Positive suggestions for uses for the kiosk are welcome.

Grants

The Parish Council has granted the Village Hall Committee a further £253 towards safety works, and £100 towards the costs of the ‘South Pennines Farming and Rural Business Project’. There are still limited funds available for small grants. Applicants please contact the Parish Clerk.

Planning Application land at 37, Tivydale, Cawthorne

The Parish Council has objected to the latest application for construction of a residential dwelling at land adjacent to 37, Tivydale, Cawthorne.
