Parish Council Elections
At the recent Parish Council election the above Councillors were returned unopposed.
Annual Meeting of the Parish Council
a. The Annual Meeting of the Parish Council was held on the 11th May 2011. Several parishioners attended as well as all Parish Councillors. At that meeting Councillor Margaret Broadhead was elected Chairman for the forthcoming year and Councillor John Walker was elected Vice-Chairman. Councillors were appointed to committees as follows:
Budget and Finance Committee: Councillors Broadhead, Butterworth, Hindley and Walker.
Planning Committee: Councillors Asquith, Barr, Kilner and Pitt.
Footpaths and Environment Committee: Councillors Asquith, Barr, Ellis, Hindley, Kilner and Walker.
Recreation Ground Trust Nominee: Councillor Barr.
Village Hall Committee Nominee: Councillor Walker.
Penistone Road Safety Committee Nominees: Councillors Barr and Ellis.
b. Mr. T. F. Matthewman, JP, was appointed Internal Auditor to the Council, with Ms. A. Oaks as reserve. Mr. Matthewman/Ms. Oaks are not Councillors, and are independent of the Council.
Parish Council Meetings and Public Question Session
The following procedure to enable parishioners to address the Council is still in force:
Councillors and the Clerk attend at 7.30 pm; members of the public who are in attendance are allowed to ask questions of the Council, on any matter, from 7.30 pm to 7.40 pm; at 7.40 pm the formal meeting of the Council commences. Members of the public are not permitted to participate in the formal meeting unless they have complied with the requirements previously advertised. This procedure also applies to Council Committee Meetings.
Parish Council Grants
The Council has a limited amount available to award as grants to bona fide parish organisations. Sums this year are less than last year however organisations are encouraged to apply. Please send any applications to the Clerk to the Council, details below.
Play Facilities in The Orchard
The play facilities in the Orchard are now open and in use. Fund raising is taking place to purchase the two outstanding pieces of equipment which have not been purchased due to government financial cutbacks.
Next Meeting of the Parish Council
The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held on Thursday 2nd JUNE 2011, at 7.40 pm, in the Moxon Room, Village Hall. All parishioners are welcome, and are encouraged to attend at 7.30 pm.
